Family amusement park in Northern Ireland

Pickie Funpark in Bangor, Northern Ireland, is one of the most well-known and popular family attractions in the region, ranking among the top attractions in Northern Ireland. Situated on the picturesque coast of Bangor, this amusement park offers a colorful mix of traditional fun and modern activities that appeal to both children and adults. The park is located near Bangor Marina and Belfast Lough, providing a beautiful backdrop of sea views and fresh sea air. It stands at the entrance to the Marine Gardens, a coastal area that invites leisurely walks and highlights the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Activities for kids at Pickie Funpark

The history of Pickie Funpark is closely intertwined with the development of Bangor as a seaside resort. Originally located at this site was the Pickie Pool, an outdoor swimming pool that was a major attraction in the 1950s, drawing many children from Bangor, Belfast, and beyond for swimming. With the rise of international travel in the following decades, the pool lost its significance, fell into disrepair, and was eventually demolished as part of a comprehensive redevelopment of the coastal area in the late 1980s. From this redevelopment emerged the present Funpark, which underwent a major renovation in 2012 to transform it into a modern family attraction destination. This investment has once again made the park a central part of tourism in Bangor and County Down.

Family outings on Bangor coast

Pickie Funpark offers a variety of activities aimed at entertaining all age groups. One of the most well-known attractions is the "Pickie Puffer," a steam-powered narrow-gauge train that takes visitors on a winding journey through the colorful landscape of the park. Equally iconic are the large "Pickie Pedal Swans," huge swan boats that families can paddle across the shallow water of a lagoon area. These boats are not only a fun factor but also a symbol of the park, reminiscent of the playful nostalgia of bygone times. For the adventurous, there is an 18-hole mini-golf course with a nautical theme, designed with creative obstacles that challenge both skill and fun.

Nostalgic attractions in Pickie Funpark

For younger visitors, the park offers a large adventure playground with climbing frames, slides, and swings, allowing for hours of playtime. Another attraction is the Splash Pad, a water area with splashing fountains that provides cooling and joy, especially on warm days. Children can also drive on an electric highway, steer small remote-controlled boats, or try out the "Disco Ducks" – a fun variation of pedal boats with a modern twist. This variety of offerings makes the park a place where no one gets bored, whether actively participating or simply enjoying the atmosphere.

Pickie Funpark with sea view

A special feature of the park is the colorful Victorian beach huts, which not only exude nostalgic charm but also provide practical changing facilities. They evoke the time when Bangor was a classic seaside resort and give the park a timeless aesthetic. The modern café in the park is another highlight: with its glass-enclosed design, family-friendly menu, and stylish interior, it offers a perfect place to relax. From here, there is a magnificent view over Bangor Marina and Belfast Lough, enhancing the experience.

Pickie Funpark stands out from other attractions in Northern Ireland due to its location by the sea and the combination of traditional and new elements. While places like Titanic Belfast or the Giant's Causeway focus more on history or nature, the Funpark is a place for carefree leisure and family fun. It is also located at the beginning of the North Down Coastal Path, a coastal trail that invites further exploration, such as Wilson's Point, where visitors can watch container ships and ferries on Belfast Lough. This connection of park and coast makes it an ideal starting point for a day full of experiences.

For families, Pickie Funpark is a paradise, offering both active entertainment and relaxation areas. Parents can relax in the café or enjoy the view on a bench while the kids play. The park is also a popular spot for picnics, with open spaces and proximity to the sea creating a relaxed atmosphere. Its accessibility and variety of offerings have made it a staple of the local community and a draw for tourists visiting Bangor.

We take our 2 boys here every Halloween for the pumpkin patch event. Tickets are bought in advance and you get a time slot during the day. Plenty for the kids to do. This year, all the rides in the park were included which was great. In previous years you were given a certain amount of tickets that you can use. It wasn't too busy so there wasn't much waiting around for each attraction. Only downside was, you have to pick your pumpkins right at the start, which means you are left carrying them around for the rest of the day. 🤦‍♂️ The on

Visited the pickie pumpkin patch on Sunday 27th Oct. It was fantastic fun. My 6 year old grandson loved every minute of it. From choosing his pumpkin and getting it carved, to petting a snake. The exploris pop up aquarium was very informative and the guy who was telling us all the facts made it fun too which the kids enjoyed. My grandson got on all the free rides, we all got on the pickie puffer and the swans and then when we went into the cafe for a warm drink and snack, there was a lady dressed up and singing spooky songs. She was fantastic. All in all it was a brilliant day and i would definitely return!!!

Customer service is absolutely shocking tried ringing a total of 24 times with no answer contacted via Facebook got a response of "yes" to me asking could I make enquires via there page and since have just read my messages with no reply or any attempt to help or get back to me! I also stated I knew they would be busy at this time of year but if they have the time to read my message and simply and rudely just ignore it then that shows how much they care for there customers!! It states they aim to answer all calls within first 2 rings or will contact the person back! No contact and no replies have been made to me! Very very dissatisfied and disappointed in this from such a well known and supported attraction!

Website awful and makes booking anything over complicated - not to mention the many failed attempts for no reason leading to being blocked from trying to buy anything! Pretty shabby and under staffed also Tickets should be bought from a machine

Visited near the end of the summer break. We were happy to discover the water pump on and available (we visited before the summer break, and it didn't switch on till about 3 pm) Our girl loves the water area, and there are seats along the side to sit and watch. The play park is always popular and has a nice balance between items ranged from toddlers to primary school. The little train is always a favourite whether you go on it or not. This park is great as you are able to take your own picnic, but if you don't there's a lovely Cafe on site and of course, a very popular ice cream stand. The walk along the promenade has a gorgeous view of the harbour and really makes this such a great daytrip.

Great wee place, handy cafe, kills a couple of hours, though the staff throughout look like the end of the world is coming.

Not a very exciting place. A few choices, but nothing to excite anyone at all. The guy at the ducks was laying horizontal on the bench and he looked so mad that he had to get up and come over to assist us....lol. it looked like he was sleeping. The play park for the kids was the only decent activity here anything else was quite boring.

A small family venue, but plenty to keep your young kids occupied. Situated close to the marina, it provides a beautiful scenic view with close walking distance to local cafés and restaurants. Great for a quiet family day.
